This farewell is not a goodbye, it’s more like in its original sense, a sentence that derives from the vikings, from the norwegian words: “far vell” which means “travel good”. This mixtape is meant to be a companion in the journey and at the same the journey itself. It has been compiled and mixed thinking in that important trip we all do at least once, between what we call “life” and “death”, or the “after-life”.
If you pay attention to the titles of the tracks that compose this mix you can get a close idea of the type of journey I am talking about: Aurat, Encounter On IO, The Purpose Of Peace, Pyramid of Light, In Your Sleep, In a Silent Way, Sea Wall, The Beginning And End Of The World, Morning Prayer, Transcendence, Black Sun, Arrival, From the Window Above the Lake, Under The Surface, In Your Own Time, Sky Burial, Finire… No, if you are thinking I selected the tracks based on the titles, you are missing the big picture. I selected the songs that I deeply felt were leading me into another world, then when I saw them all, together, I realized they shared somehow the same (extremely personal) purpose, the same destination, encrypted in their own titles, like pieces of the same puzzle.
It’s been three years I haven’t made or published a mixtape. I don’t know the reason that stopped me from doing it, but all this time I have been listening and compiling music, that’s why probably I could not limit myself to the classic one hour set, so I let it be whatever it needed to be. 2:22:34 hours that somehow are the best portrait of my current inner-self, and at the same time represent the evolution of my personal taste in music: There is more drone and ambient music, more jazzy and world music references, less beat-driven music, but still noisy and melodic at the same time.
So, what can you expect from this mix? It is something quiet, mostly pleasant and beautiful, but be aware that there is also moments of tension, pain, pressure… and release. Don’t fight. Surrender. Enjoy it as a whole, as an adventure in between the limits of opposite poles. Just press play and let it go.
